This past weekend was the first Olympia Zine Fest. Sam and I went down to the tabling expo on saturday and got some new zines. These two are the ones i picked out: Shadow-Ghost: A Little Comic Zine About Anxiety, by Nicki, and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle: A Zine About Nannying Made By Nannies.
They’re both so good!
Shadow-Ghost is a short comic about anxiety – embodied by a little shadow-ghost who follows wherever you go. It always helps me to read about other people’s relationships with anxiety, to get more perspective on my own.
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle was super-relevant to my life as well. I just stopped nannying this summer for twins that I’d taken care of since they were 5 months old. I’ve been missing them so much, and it felt really good to read about others’ experiences with nannying – and especially with saying goodbye to their kids.
I also read a few really good zines from the Zine Library in Obsidian while I was hanging out. In Morning Clouds, Pippi, and The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Fighting the Big Motherfuckin’ Sad.
